The Indian educational landscape is about to change with the entry of Australian school board WACE (Western Australian Certificate of Education) that promises a comprehensive K–12 education pathway, spanning from early childhood education to senior secondary level.
WACE is to kick-start its Indian journey with the establishment of three schools starting this July, two schools in Bengaluru and one in Bidar in Karnataka.
What is WACE?
WACE is a senior secondary curriculum from the Government of Western Australia and is already running in countries like Singapore, China, Japan, and Malaysia.
Is it recognised?
WACE is equivalent with Indian senior secondary school certificates, providing students access to both national and global higher education pathways. All certificates will be issued directly by the Government of Western Australia, ensuring authenticity and global recognition.
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognised WACE as equivalent to Indian school boards Every student enrolled in the WACE programme will be assigned a unique identification number by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA)—the statutory body overseeing WACE.
Is it affordable?
The average fee for a CBSE school is between Rs 1-1.3 lakh annually based on the location. It is affordable and is much cheaper than other international boards.
Will WACE curriculum be in tune with NEP?
The WACE authorities state that it would work as a complementary partner and align with National Education Policy (NEP) and promote critical thinking, creativity, and practical skills.
Will students be able to apply in Indian and foreign universities after passing out of WACE board?
WACE-affiliated school students will also receive the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) – a recognised university entrance score used by universities across Australia, the UK, US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. The AIU’s recognition will help Indian students complete WACE and apply for Indian universities with full Grade XII equivalence, in addition to international admissions around the world.
