In a spectacular celebration of Telangana’s vibrant culture, the Bathukamma festival at Saroornagar Stadium made global headlines by setting two Guinness World Records, turning the floral festival into a moment of international recognition.
Thousands of women, dignitaries, and cultural icons gathered on Sunday for the historic event, which featured a massive Bathukamma floral arrangement and the largest synchronized folk dance performance ever recorded.
The first record came from the colossal floral tower built in the shape of a traditional Bathukamma. Standing 63.11 feet tall and 36 feet wide, the tower weighed approximately 10.7 tonnes, made with nine varieties of flowers and 11 intricate layers. Over 300 volunteers meticulously assembled it over three days.
The second record saw 1,354 women performing the Bathukamma dance in perfect unison, a vibrant display of rhythm, tradition, and collective spirit.
Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, along with Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Seetakka, Deputy Mayor Mote Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, and Miss World Opal Suchata, participated in the celebrations. The Mayor hailed the event as a “global tribute to Telangana’s traditions” and a powerful symbol of women’s empowerment.
“When women are strong, families, societies, states, and nations thrive,” she said. Minister Jupally Krishna Rao called the event a beacon of unity:“May Bathukamma’s light spread to every home and community, bringing joy, peace, and prosperity.”
The record-breaking celebration not only cemented Telangana’s cultural legacy on the world stage but also highlighted the strength of its women, the richness of its heritage, and the unifying power of festivals.
