The BJP strongly condemned the house arrest of Telangana State BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Monday morning, which prevented him from participating in the party’s “Ghar Ghar Tiranga” programme. Rao was scheduled to take part in the programme in Secunderabad and Goshamahal constituencies when a team of police officers arrived at his residence in Tarnaka and placed him under house arrest.

Reacting to the development, Union Minister of Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is currently attending the Parliament session in Delhi, accused the Congress government of conspiring to appease a particular community ahead of the Jubilee Hills bye-election. He alleged that the Congress was playing politics with Hindu sentiments for electoral gains.

Bandi Sanjay clarified that Rao had no scheduled visit to the Peddamma Temple in Banjara Hills to attend the Kumkumarchana ceremony organised by Hindu organisations, yet was still taken into custody. He criticised the action as “foolish” and questioned what was wrong with Hindus visiting a temple.

In a separate statement, state BJP spokesperson and media in-charge N.V. Subhash also condemned the house arrest and demanded Rao’s immediate release. “Preventing a leader from participating in the 'Ghar Ghar Tiranga' campaign is a direct attack on democracy,” he said.

He further alleged that the Congress government is following the same path as the previous BRS regime, which he claimed had frequently targeted opposition voices. “The people of Telangana have already rejected the BRS. They will teach a similar lesson to the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government,” Subhash added.
