The Union Government on Friday reiterated its commitment to supporting Telangana’s growing semiconductor and electronics sector through national-level schemes and incentives. Responding to a question raised by Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Jitin Prasada, made key observations about Telangana’s inclusion in the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

The Minister stated that while the “Semicon India” Program is a pan-India initiative without state-specific allocations, Telangana-based companies and academic institutions have significantly benefited through the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) and Chips to Startup (C2S) schemes.

He further clarified that applicants under the Semicon India Program are free to choose project locations across India, and all proposals are evaluated on technical and financial merits by a committee of domain experts. Telangana’s participation is a reflection of its readiness and capacity to contribute to the national semiconductor vision.

Support under Chips to Startup (C2S) program in Telangana

The Chips to Startup (C2S) program, designed to nurture semiconductor talent through academic capacity-building, has extended financial assistance to six leading educational institutions in Telangana: University of Hyderabad, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, Osmania University College of Engineering Hyderabad, Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal. Furthermore, 22 academic institutions across Telangana have received design tool access under the C2S scheme to facilitate research and training in chip design and related technologies.

These premier institutions have been recognized for their excellence in engineering and research and are receiving either financial support or access to advanced design tools to bolster semiconductor education and innovation. Their inclusion highlights Telangana’s strong academic foundation in electronics and VLSI design, positioning the state as a key contributor to India's semiconductor ambitions.
