In a decisive move towards tackling Hyderabad’s recurring flood woes, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy instructed officials to formulate a comprehensive plan to ensure that all rainwater across the city is systematically channeled into the Musi River. He emphasized the need to interlink every lake, nala, and stormwater drain to the Musi as part of a sustainable urban drainage strategy.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on Friday, the Chief Minister took stock of the havoc caused by the previous night’s heavy rains and sought detailed inputs from officials across departments. The CM was briefed on how blocked drainage channels and unregulated urban development were contributing to severe waterlogging and flooding in several areas.

The Chief Minister directed that special focus be given to resolving the flood issues in the core urban region within the Outer Ring Road. He called for swift action on lake restoration, nala widening, and connecting all water bodies to create a seamless flow of stormwater into the Musi.

Revanth stressed that rainwater should, without exception, flow into nearby lakes and nalas, eventually merging into the Musi River. He asserted that reviving the Musi is not just an environmental imperative but a crucial step in flood prevention and traffic management during monsoon seasons.

Officials were instructed to prepare an integrated action plan for Musi River rejuvenation, which the CM said would serve as a permanent, long-term solution to Hyderabad’s urban flooding problems. He added that such a strategy would also lay the foundation for future-proofing the city’s infrastructure and improving the quality of urban life.
