The Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has demanded that the post of Vice-President of India be allotted to a Telugu-speaking leader, citing the repeated injustice to the South in national appointments. CM Revanth strongly advocated the candidature of former Union Minister and Telangana leader Bandaru Dattatreya for the post, emphasizing that the denial of the President post to M. Venkaiah Naidu in the past reflected the NDA government’s neglect of the southern states.

“The Modi government must stop its discriminatory approach towards the South. The Vice-President post should be seen as an opportunity to restore respect for Telugu-speaking people,” Revanth stressed while speaking to media in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Addressing the issue of social justice, the Chief Minister said that the Telangana government has passed a landmark Bill proposing 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in education, employment, and local body elections. The legislation, a result of scientific caste survey data collected through a comprehensive social survey in the state, aims to ensure fair representation and empowerment of marginalised communities.

He stated that the Congress government in Telangana is determined to implement the BC quota and has already brought forward an ordinance removing the 50% cap imposed during the previous TRS regime. The CM pointed out that BJP leaders who once supported enhanced BC reservations in the Assembly are now showing indifference and creating hurdles at the Centre.

To push the BC quota Bill for central approval, the Congress government has drawn up an action plan, Revanth added. A delegation of Telangana MPs, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, will meet senior Congress leaders including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge. The CM and the MPs will brief them on the details of the survey, the legal groundwork of the Bill, and the urgency to pressurize the Union government for its approval.

Revanth said this effort is not just for Telangana, but to set a national model for BC empowerment through employment and political representation. The Congress party plans to rally INDIA bloc MPs and other regional allies to support the cause in Parliament.

CM also slammed BJP’s “double standards” on Muslim reservations, pointing out that BC Muslim communities enjoy quota benefits in BJP-ruled states like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. He questioned the BJP’s objections to Muslim BC reservations in Telangana and called it a political conspiracy rooted in misinformation.
