Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Monday launched a sharp attack on BRS members, ridiculing them for skipping the Legislative Assembly after earlier claiming they would strongly corner the government. He remarked that those who had raised several questions and demands during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings were now conspicuously absent from the House itself.
Sridhar Babu said it was highly inappropriate for the main opposition to stay away when crucial issues were being debated in the Assembly. He pointed out that the government had specifically arranged a detailed presentation on Krishna river water issues in the House with the sole objective of placing factual information before the people of Telangana. If the opposition had objections or counter-arguments, he said, they should have raised them on the floor of the House rather than making statements outside.
Questioning the conduct of the BRS legislators, the minister asked how it could be justified to avoid Assembly proceedings and instead indulge in criticism beyond the House. He urged the Speaker to take serious note of what he termed as behaviour that undermines the dignity of the Chair and the democratic functioning of the legislature.
Earlier, Whip and Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas also sought action against BRS MLAs for their comments blaming the Speaker for allegedly not restraining Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during the river waters debate. Aadi Srinivas asserted that the Speaker had given ample opportunities to BRS members to speak whenever they sought the floor. Despite this, he said, the opposition lacked basic gratitude and chose to fault the Speaker over trivial issues, warranting action against them.
