Karnataka promises 10-day water release for Jurala project

metro india news  I hyderabad : The Karnataka government has agreed to release water to Telangana’s Priyadarshini Jurala Project following high-level bilateral discussions in Bengaluru, bringing much-needed relief to farmers in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district.

State Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari confirmed the development, stating that Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar responded positively to Telangana’s request despite constrained water availability in his own state. The delegation met Shivakumar in two rounds of talks to highlight the severe drought-like conditions caused by El Niño and the critical water shortages facing the Jurala ayacut.

“Chief Minister Shivakumar assured us that water will be released to Jurala for 10 days on an intermittent basis,” the Ministers said. Following the meeting, Shivakumar instructed Karnataka Water Resources Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy and Chief Secretary Dr. Shalini Rajneesh to expedite the release. The Ministers expressed gratitude to the Karnataka leadership for prioritising the plight of Telangana cultivators during a period of shared water distress.
