In a tragic turn of events, Bandlaguda Police have arrested a man in connection with the kidnapping and subsequent murder of a 3-year-old boy. The incident, initially reported as a missing child case, unfolded into a murder investigation following a detailed probe.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohd Akbar (37), a vegetable vendor and resident of Bandlaguda. He was taken into custody on Tuesday and is being produced before the court for judicial remand.
According to police, on September 13, Sana Begum, a resident of Bandlaguda, lodged a complaint stating that her younger son, Mohd Anas (3), had gone missing during the early hours of the day. A kidnapping case was immediately registered and an investigation launched.
During the investigation, police grew suspicious of the child’s father, Mohd Akbar. Upon sustained questioning, he reportedly confessed to killing his son in a fit of rage due to ongoing family disputes. He admitted to smothering the boy with a pillow, placing the body in a gunny bag, tying it with rope, and disposing of it in the Musi River from Nayapul Bridge in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The confession, along with supporting technical evidence including CCTV footage, confirmed Akbar’s involvement in the crime. Search operations are currently underway with the assistance of the DRF and HYDRA teams to recover the victim’s body from the Musi River.
