Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar on Tuesday assured swift action following a complaint by a group of women journalists, including independent reporter Tulasi Chandu, over sustained online harassment, threats, and sexually abusive content.

The delegation presented several troll videos to illustrate the intensity of the attacks. They said multiple social media accounts have been consistently posting abusive remarks, coordinated attacks, and threatening messages aimed at humiliating, intimidating, and endangering women journalists reporting on public issues.

Sajjanar urged the journalists to share all relevant links, screenshots, and videos for verification. ‘We will take action. You will see the steps we initiate. I will speak further after action is taken,’ he said, assuring that legal measures would follow.

The written complaint detailed a ‘deeply troubling pattern’ of harassment, including life threats, defamatory posts, and vulgar abuse. Some attackers claimed knowledge of journalists’ residential addresses. Meanwhile, the delegation met Telangana State Commission for Women Chairperson Nerella Sharada, urging her intervention. They requested a special cell to monitor online harassment, strict enforcement of cyber laws, and awareness campaigns to combat digital abuse.

Sharada responded positively, assuring that the issue would be raised with Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy, Commissioner Sajjanar, Cyber Security Bureau Director Shikha Goel, and the Chief Minister’s Office. She added that the Commission is preparing a comprehensive plan to tackle online abuse and protect women.
