The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has issued an urgent public alert warning citizens against the use of Coldrif Syrup, batch number SR-13, following reports of child deaths in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan allegedly linked to the medicine.

The DCA stated that the batch, manufactured by Sresan Pharma in Sunguvarchathiram, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu, is reportedly adulterated with Diethylene Glycol (DEG), a toxic substance. The affected batch carries a manufacturing date of May 2025 and an expiry date of April 2027.

Authorities have asked the public to immediately stop using the syrup if they have it and report it to the nearest Drugs Control office. Citizens can also reach out to the Telangana DCA through the toll-free number 1800-599-6969, available between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on working days.

Telangana DCA officials are working closely with their Tamil Nadu counterparts to track the distribution of the contaminated batch within the State. All Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors have been instructed to alert retailers, wholesalers, and hospitals to freeze any stocks of the batch if found in circulation.

The administration emphasized that stringent measures are being taken to protect public health and prevent further incidents. Officials urged parents and caregivers to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspected cases of illness related to the syrup.

The alert highlights the ongoing need for stringent monitoring of pharmaceutical products to ensure safety and prevent tragedies linked to contaminated medicines. The Telangana DCA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens and coordinating with authorities across states to trace and contain affected stocks.
