08-01-2026 12:00:00 AM

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has geared up to handle the heavy passenger rush during the Sankranthi festival by operating 6,431 special buses to ensure safe and smooth travel for commuters heading to their hometowns. According to TGSRTC officials, peak travel demand is expected on January 9, 10, 12 and 13, while return journey traffic is likely to be high on January 18 and 19.

Special buses will be deployed dynamically based on passenger demand on these days. Special services will operate from major hubs in Hyderabad, including MGBS, JBS, Uppal Cross Roads, Aramghar, LB Nagar, KPHB, Bowenpally and Gachibowli. TGSRTC stated that even if passenger turnout is low on return trips, empty buses will be rerouted promptly to busy corridors to avoid inconvenience and ensure optimal service.

As per GO No. 16 issued in 2003, the corporation is permitted to revise fares for special buses up to 1.5 times during major festivals to offset fuel and maintenance costs. Accordingly, revised fares will apply only to special buses operating within Telangana and to other states on peak travel dates.. Under the state government’s "Mahalaxmi scheme", free travel for women will remain available on Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary and Metro Express services during the festival period.
