Andhra Pradesh Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh on Monday assured that the state government is committed to the growth of the Telugu film industry and will soon introduce a comprehensive new film policy. He made the announcement during a meeting with a delegation of film producers at the Secretariat in Velagapudi.
The meeting, held in the conference hall of the Secretariat’s second block, saw producers hand over a detailed document outlining the problems faced by the industry. The issues discussed included the resumption of film shootings, release of new films, development of 24 different film-related departments, and demands for improved infrastructure.
Producers requested the minister to arrange a joint meeting with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to address these concerns. Responding positively, Durgesh promised to facilitate such a meeting in the first or second week of September, after conducting a thorough review and formulating suitable proposals.
Durgesh emphasised that the coalition government is dedicated to strengthening the Telugu film sector, both in terms of policy and infrastructure. He assured that the government would support any proposals to build new studios, dubbing theatres, or re-recording theatres in the state. “We are prepared to extend all necessary cooperation from the government’s side for projects that will benefit the industry,” he said.
The minister also noted that the meeting served as a first step in bringing the suggestions and requests of the producers to the notice of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. He added that discussions also covered the organisation of the prestigious Nandi Awards and Nandi Theatre Festivals.
“Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has already taken a clear decision on Nandi Awards, and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has given specific guidelines. The awards will certainly be presented this year,” Durgesh said. He advised producers to consider ways to make the awards process more beneficial to the industry.
He further said that discussions had been held on how the government could support films based on budget size and other factors. “We will soon take appropriate decisions in this regard,” Durgesh assured.
