Huda Park Lake, also known as Langar House Lake, has transformed from a foul-smelling garbage dump into a clean, sparkling water body following an intensive 20-day restoration drive by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
For years, residents had voiced frustration on X (formerly Twitter). One user wrote, “Anna, lakes have been a privilege for the people of Hyderabad but Langer house lake is turned in garbage pit which is also called as HUDA park.” Another complained of “rising mosquito menace… caused by garbage dumping in the lake.” In June, a post read, “Whole lake is covered in water hyacinth and the mosquitoes are exploding in Langer House area.”
Prompted by these concerns, the Mayor adopted the lake as a special civic project. Floating Trash Collectors (FTCs) were deployed to clear waste, silt, and weeds, while sanitation teams worked round-the-clock to restore water quality and beautify the park’s surroundings. Today, the lake shimmers under the sun, fish have returned, and landscaped walking paths attract evening visitors.
Residents have welcomed the change, calling it “long overdue.” Officials say that if this cleanliness momentum is maintained — with GHMC’s periodic inspections and active citizen participation — the lake could remain a year-round green retreat, boost biodiversity, and even serve as a hub for recreational activities. Sustained awareness drives, proper waste disposal, and community watch groups are key to ensuring Huda Park Lake never falls back into neglect.
