Coal India Limited (CIL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rainbow Children’s Hospital under the Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana (TBSY), CIL’s flagship CSR initiative.
The collaboration will provide bone marrow transplants (BMT) for children with Thalassemia and Aplastic Anaemia, marking the first such centre in Telangana.<The MoU was signed in the presence of G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, alongside Sanoj Kumar Jha, Chairman of CIL, and senior officials from both organizations. Rekha Pandey, GM (CSR), signed on behalf of CIL, while Dr. K Prashanth, Group Medical Director, signed for Rainbow Children’s Foundation.
While addressing the audience, G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, emphasized that the initiative would benefit children from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and neighbouring states by providing easier access to high quality BMT services, eliminating the need for families to travel out of state for treatment.
Since 2017, CIL has partnered with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare under TBSY, providing up to Rs 10 lakh per child for BMT at 18 empanelled hospitals nationwide. More than 800 children have already received treatment under the scheme.
Dr. Sirisha Rani, Head of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and BMT at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, noted that India records nearly 15,000 Thalassemia major cases annually, and BMT remains the only curative option.
