The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a citywide Special Sanitation Drive aimed at improving public hygiene and health during the monsoon season. Initiated on July 29, the campaign has already cleaned 30 wards, with the remaining 120 scheduled for completion by August 8.

Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha are spearheading the initiative, while Commissioner RV Karnan is personally inspecting the operations, ensuring that teams work in tandem to remove rain-related waste such as debris, silt, and garbage. Sanitation staff are operating in double shifts—from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.—enhancing their routine duties.

Commissioner Karnan has been conducting surprise morning inspections across zones including LB Nagar, Charminar, Kukatpally, and Khairatabad. Zonal and Deputy Commissioners, along with Health Officers, SWM Engineers, and other officials, have intensified field efforts.

As part of GHMC’s mosquito-control measures, teams are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns, distributing leaflets to guide residents on preventing mosquito breeding and reducing the spread of seasonal diseases.

The drive is also encouraging active citizen participation. Locals like Mandapalli Kala of Vittalwadi Colony praised the visible impact of the cleanup efforts. Health rallies and information drives, such as those cited by resident Ambika Jaiswal and Deputy Commissioner Uma Prakash, are strengthening community involvement. GHMC has urged residents to support the campaign by maintaining cleanliness, avoiding garbage dumping, and preventing stagnant water collection around homes.
