Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V C Sajjanar has warned that the fear and greed of the public are becoming the investment for cyber criminals, urging citizens to stay alert as cyber frauds continue to rise across the city.
Speaking at the ‘Jagrut Hyderabad – Surakshit Hyderabad’ Cyber Crime Awareness Program held on Saturday at Charminar, Sajjanar served as the chief guest and joined police officials in distributing pamphlets on cyber-crime prevention. He later flagged off an awareness rally from Charminar to Madina and administered the Cyber Pledge to participants, stressing the need for collective responsibility.
The Commissioner highlighted that the awareness campaign, launched to make Hyderabad a cybercrime-free city, is conducted every Tuesday and Saturday, with police teams visiting households to educate residents.
He observed that many victims fall prey due to lack of awareness, emphasizing that self-vigilance is the most effective defence. Encouraging community participation, he invited volunteers to register as Cyber Simbas, noting that creating ‘a Cyber Simba in every home’ would strengthen neighborhood safety.
Sajjanar cautioned citizens against posting private photos or personal data online, warning that such information can be misused by criminals. He expressed concern over children, especially girls interacting with strangers on social media and urged parents to guide them carefully before giving them mobile phones. He also drew attention to increasing digital arrest scams targeting senior citizens.
