Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R.V. Karnan has urged the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi and all concerned government departments to work in close coordination to ensure the upcoming Ganesh festival is celebrated smoothly and peacefully across the city.
Chairing a preparatory convergence meeting at the GHMC Head Office on Monday, the Commissioner reviewed arrangements for the festival, which will begin on August 27 and conclude with idol immersions on September 6. Senior officials from multiple departments and members of the Ganesh Utsav Samithi participated in the meeting.
Karnan said GHMC, the police, and other agencies would work together to make the celebrations a grand success. Repair works on roads damaged by recent rains are underway, and pending works on national highways used for idol processions will be completed before the festivities. More cranes than last year will be deployed at immersion points to ensure quick and safe immersions, with enhanced funds allocated for logistics and arrangements. Zonal-level coordination meetings will also be held for effective execution of plans.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Vikram Singh Mann outlined safety measures, including the use of quality materials and wiring for pandals to prevent accidents during heavy rains, height restrictions for idols to avoid traffic disruptions, and installation of at least one CCTV camera at each pandal. He also suggested separate entry and exit routes for visitors at major pandals, dedicated volunteer teams for crowd management, and timely commencement of major processions like Khairatabad and Balapur.
The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi presented its own suggestions for smooth festival conduct. Senior officials from traffic police, HMDA, HMRL, TSRTC, Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and
Rachakonda police commissionerates, along with representatives from health, fire, irrigation, tourism, pollution control, and electricity departments, attended the meeting. Karnan emphasised that there would be no budgetary constraints and that all arrangements would be completed well in advance to ensure a safe, vibrant, and peaceful Ganesh festival for the people of Hyderabad.
