Prominent industrialist and GMR Group Chairman Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao has announced a major philanthropic contribution in his native district, donating land worth Rs. 1 crore to the Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple at Rajam in Vizianagaram district.
On Saturday, Mallikarjuna Rao, accompanied by his wife Varalakshmi, visited the temple and performed special prayers. He later formally handed over the ownership documents of 19 cents of land to the temple committee members, marking one of the significant private donations made to the shrine in recent years.
As part of his visit, the GMR Group founder also reviewed the progress of the Bhogapuram International Airport project, which is being developed by the GMR Group. He inspected key components of the project, including the terminal building, runway works, passenger amenities, and security infrastructure. Interacting with officials on-site, he stressed adherence to quality standards and timely execution of the project.
As part of the festive outreach, the GMR Group distributed clothing worth ₹64 lakh to nearly 8,000 people in the region. In addition, through the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, the group has adopted 40 underprivileged children from the Rajam area. The foundation will bear the complete cost of their education, ensuring uninterrupted academic support.
