Shailaja Ramaiyer, Principal Secretary of Telangana Handloom, Textiles, and Endowments, emphasized the cultural significance of handlooms in India while inaugurating the Indian Silk Gallery exhibition at Sathya Sai Nigamagamam in Srinagar Colony on Tuesday.
She highlighted the exhibition as a platform for artistic excellence and premium silk products. Joined by socialite and entrepreneur Shailaja Reddy, Ramaiyer inspected the handloom products and praised the craftsmanship of weavers. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Telangana’s handloom sector through welfare schemes and enhanced marketing at national and international levels.
Organizers Srinivasa Rao and Vinay Kumar, CEO of Silk India, noted that the exhibition brings together skilled weavers from across the country, offering direct-to-consumer access to high-quality silk and cotton fabrics. Around 80 stalls feature products from renowned weaving hubs such as Pochampally, Gadwal, Venkatagiri, Madanapalle, Chanderi, and Ikkat.
In celebration of the upcoming Dussehra and Diwali festivals, the exhibition presents a special collection of rare and traditional sarees. The event runs until September 23, providing a unique opportunity for shoppers to explore and support India’s rich handloom heritage.
