The Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh Commission on Thursday submitted its detailed report on the Kaleshwaram multi-stage lift irrigation project to the Telangana government. Justice PC Ghosh, who headed the judicial inquiry, handed over the sealed report to Irrigation Principal Secretary Rahul Bojja at BRK Bhavan in Hyderabad. The report will now be forwarded to the State Chief Secretary for further action.
The Congress-led government, after coming to power in December 2023, ordered a judicial inquiry into the project following serious structural issues reported at key components — including the collapse of a pillar at the Medigadda barrage and leakage problems at the Annaram and Sundilla barrages. A preliminary vigilance report had earlier flagged these as major concerns.
In response, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the formation of a judicial commission during a session in the Legislative Assembly. On March 14, 2024, the State constituted the PC Ghosh Commission to investigate irregularities in the ₹80,000 crore mega irrigation project.
Over a span of 15 months, the Commission examined 115 witnesses and reviewed documents including vigilance and National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) reports. It also summoned and questioned key figures including former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, and top officials involved in the project’s execution. The findings, now with the government, are expected to form the basis for further administrative and possible legal action.
