In response to a recent incident where students fell ill after consuming outside food, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Backward Classes (BC) Welfare, S. Savitha, has issued a directive banning all outside food in BC hostels and Gurukul schools across the state.
The decision comes after 13 female students of the BC Gurukul School in Ramapuram, Penukonda Mandal, Satyasai District, experienced minor health issues. Following initial treatment at the Ramapuram Primary Health Centre, the students were discharged on Tuesday morning.
Minister Savitha, upon learning of the incident, spoke with the students, doctors, and Gurukul staff via telephone. Medical professionals informed the minister that the students’ illness was likely due to the consumption of contaminated food purchased from shops near the hostel on Sunday. While all students have recovered and been discharged, they will remain under medical observation at the hostel, as instructed by the minister. Regular health updates will be provided to ensure their continued well-being. The minister also enquired about the health of other students at the Gurukul, who are reported to be fine. Expressing strong disapproval over the incident, Minister Savitha has ordered a complete ban on bringing outside food into hostels. Additionally, she has directed staff to ensure that students do not leave the hostel premises under any circumstances. This measure aims to prevent similar incidents and prioritize the health and safety of students residing in these institutions. The minister’s office released an official statement on Monday outlining these new measures.
