President Droupadi Murmu urged young doctors to dedicate their services to rural and tribal communities while addressing the first convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Mangalagiri, Guntur district. The President, who was the chief guest at the event, conferred degrees on the institute's first batch of 49 MBBS graduates.
President Murmu arrived at Gannavaram Airport in a special aircraft earlier in the day, where she was warmly welcomed by Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and other dignitaries. Following her arrival, she proceeded to AIIMS Mangalagiri to participate in the momentous convocation ceremony.
In her address to the graduates, President Murmu emphasized the role of doctors in uplifting healthcare in underserved regions. “By choosing the medical profession, you have chosen the path of serving humanity with compassion. Young doctors like you should prioritize providing medical services in rural, tribal, and remote areas where healthcare infrastructure often remains limited,” she said. “You have a valuable opportunity to save lives, improve health outcomes, and contribute to the nation’s collective development. I hope you will work with dedication to ensure accessible healthcare for every citizen,” the President added.
During her address, President Murmu stressed the importance of preventive healthcare and adopting healthy lifestyles. “Every individual must prioritize their health. Regular exercise, yoga, and pranayama are essential for maintaining physical and mental well-being,” she remarked. She also highlighted the government’s efforts to promote affordable healthcare through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, which aims to provide accessible medical services to millions.
President Murmu applauded the role of Indian doctors in advancing medical services globally. “India’s healthcare professionals are known for their commitment and excellence across the world. However, we must ensure that every citizen, especially those in underserved areas, receives quality medical care,” she said. “Young doctors should embrace service-oriented values and prioritize patient care above all.”
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who was present at the ceremony, reiterated the government’s commitment to the development of AIIMS Mangalagiri. “Our coalition government will extend full cooperation to ensure this institution emerges as one of the best AIIMS facilities in the country,” said Naidu. “To further strengthen its infrastructure, we will allocate an additional 10 acres of land to the institute,” he announced, highlighting the state’s resolve to bolster healthcare education and services.
Naidu further praised the graduating students and faculty for their contributions to making AIIMS Mangalagiri a center of excellence. Ministers Nara Lokesh and Satyakumar Yadav were also present at the event, sharing their vision for Andhra Pradesh as a healthcare hub in the coming years.
The convocation ceremony marked a significant milestone for AIIMS Mangalagiri, which has become a symbol of hope and progress in medical education and healthcare in the region. President Murmu presented gold medals to four outstanding students in recognition of their academic excellence and encouraged all graduates to uphold the ethics of the medical profession.
The event was attended by senior officials, faculty members, students, and their families, underscoring the importance of AIIMS Mangalagiri in shaping the future of healthcare in Andhra Pradesh and beyond.
