With schools reopening after the summer break coinciding with the monsoon season, CARE Hospitals doctors have advised parents to remain alert about children’s health. Dr Vittal Kumar Kesireddy, Head of Pediatrics & Neonatology, said this period often sees a rise in infections among school-going children due to changing routines and increased exposure in classrooms.

Doctors warned of viral infections, dengue, stomach illnesses, allergies and asthma flare-ups during this period. Poor sleep, irregular meals and reduced immunity after holidays further increase vulnerability. Parents are advised to ensure children get 8–10 hours of sleep, eat nutritious home-cooked breakfast and maintain proper hydration. Strict hygiene practices such as frequent handwashing, safe drinking water and avoiding stagnant water around homes are essential to prevent monsoon-related diseases.

Wet clothes and shoes should be changed immediately to avoid fungal and skin infections. Symptoms like persistent fever, vomiting or breathing issues require medical attention. Doctors stressed emotional well-being as children adjust to school routines, advising parents to support them through communication and reassurance. They said balanced nutrition, regular physical activity and timely medical care together ensure a healthier and more productive academic year for children during monsoon season.
