Hyderabad City Police has undergone its most significant restructuring in 35 years, following the Telangana Government's approval of revised policing reforms through G.O.Ms.32 (April 30, 2023) and G.O.No.57 (April 24, 2025). This reorganisation aims to improve policing efficiency, streamline jurisdictions, and address the city's evolving law and order needs.
The revamp initially introduced in 2023 saw the creation of two new Law & Order (L&O) zones—South East and South West—along with 11 new L&O divisions, 11 new police stations (total now 71), and 13 new traffic police stations (total 31). New wings for Cyber Crime, IT, Narcotics, and Women Safety were also established, accompanied by a sanctioned increase of 1,200 personnel.
Addressing jurisdictional overlaps and public concerns raised since implementation, the latest update includes the establishment of a new L&O police station in Tolichowki, bringing the total to 72. Jurisdiction from Filmnagar, Mehdipatnam (formerly Humayun Nagar), and Golconda stations has been realigned accordingly.
Several divisions and stations have also been renamed for better public identification: Golconda Division becomes Tolichowki Division, Secretariat PS is now Lake PS, Humayun Nagar becomes Mehdipatnam PS, and Shahinayathgunj is renamed Goshamahal PS. Traffic policing has been streamlined by discontinuing three stations—Marredpally, Bowenpally, and Narayanguda—and renaming others to better match L&O jurisdictions.
Specialised units under the Women Safety Wing have been enhanced with new Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Bureau units. Zonal Cyber Crime Cells have been set up in each L&O zone with dedicated staff. The department has also strengthened its workforce by internally reallocating 648 posts, maintaining the sanctioned strength of 17,020 without extra financial burden. Updated jurisdiction maps and contact information will soon be available on the official website for public access.
