The State Government aims to make all roads across Andhra Pradesh pothole-free by December this year, said Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department Special Chief Secretary N. Krishna Babu. Addressing the District Collectors’ Conference at the Secretariat, he urged collectors to focus on achieving this target. He gave a detailed presentation on the current condition of roads in the state.
He emphasized that roads are a crucial factor for development and directed that measures be taken to ensure pothole-free roads in every district. He noted that the government has already repaired 19,000 km of roads at a cost of Rs. 860 crore. For the next phase, Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned to repair 5,946 km of roads. He also mentioned that 8,744 km of National Highways have already been made pothole-free.
Highlighting that 4,229 km of roads in the state are in severely damaged condition, he said Rs 2,000 crore would be required for their reconstruction. He further informed that 12,653 km of roads will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. In the first phase, 18 roads were identified for PPP execution, out of which 12 roads have been found suitable. Another 4 roads, where no land acquisition is required, will be immediately taken up under this model.
