Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has decided to construct a four-lane road from outer ring road to Papavinasam at a cost of Rs 40 crore to reduce traffic problems in Tirumala. To go to Papavinasa Theertham, Akashaganga, Japali Anjaneyaswamy Temple and Venugopala Swamy Temple, one has to go through the Gogarbham dam which is in front of nandakam circle or cross the octopus building(Base for security personel).
Vehicular traffic is facing difficulties as there is only a two-lane road from Gogarbham dam to Papavinasanam. Apart from APSRTC buses, devotees from far-flung areas also come to the hill in private vehicles. Due to this, the rush of devotees on Tirumala hill as well as vehicular traffic is increasing day by day. This is especially so during Brahmotsavams and Garuda Seva.On special occasions and weekends, the queueline is spreading up to the octopus circle. This is causing problems with the movement of vehicles. A four-lane road has been proposed as a solution.
In the first phase, the construction work of the road has started so that vehicles can reach the mutts, dumping yard and Nepali check post from the Outer Ring Road through the Kshetrapalakuni Temple without the need for vehicles to pass through the Gogarbham dam. The bridge will be constructed from the Outer Ring Road to the Monasteries.
As part of the work to widen the existing two-lane road from Nepali check post to Akashaganga into a four-lane road, trees on both sides of the road are being removed. The survey work has already started for this purpose. TTD officials, however, sought permission from the forest department as there were forest lands from Akashaganga. TTD hopes that once the project is completed, it will be able to check the traffic problems in Tirumala.
